In 1946 Harry Mackrory, with a hand cart, a cross-cut saw, an axe and a length of rope started to supply a small amount of firewood around Henley on Thames. Due to ill health, after a few years his son Maurice took over expanding first with a horse and cart then an old lorry and a tractor. The firewood business grew to being possibly the largest around Henley, and in those days there was a lot of competition.

In the early seventies the first big parcel of standing timber was bought. Now supplying not only firewood but also a steady amount of round timber to local sawmills. By now Maurice's sons Stephen and Alan had joined the business and working together bought more and more timber needing bigger and heavier machinery, as the business grew Mackrory & Sons timber merchants was born.

In the mid eighties Mackrory & Sons took on the tenancy of Nettlebed Sawmill, again expanding into new fields. As well as a big supplier of firewood, a forestry department felling, extracting and supplying round timber to local sawmills we were now able to supply sawn timber, fencing panels and fencing stakes to local farmers, builders and the general public.

In recent years the company has expanded at quite a rate, bigger specialised machines for forestry, firewood processing machines to speed up and increase output and new lines in the sawmill including the supply of wire fencing, iron mongery, pre-packed coal and kindling.
